Hints
and Tips for taking your Childs Hand or Foot Print
All
prints should be taken using a
non-toxic ink pad in a dark shade of ink (black, navy and dark brown work
best). Ink pads can be bought at your local craft shop and at some
discount type variety stores. Try not to use the 'permanent' type
inks as they will take a long time to come off of your babies skin.
The
best time to take a print is when your
child is content (either towards the end or after a bottle or breast feed is ideal). I did all of my own children's
prints for their birth announcements while they were asleep in their bassinettes
and found there was less cleanup required!
Handprints
are always more difficult to take
and will require a lot more time and patience, particularly with babies as they
tend to curl their fingers, or hands into a fist.
I would recommend having another person to help with taking a
handprint. Footprints require a lot less time and
patience and are generally a lot easier to do.
If
you find that you are having trouble getting a print because your baby is
being "unco-operative", it is probably best to leave it for now
and try again a bit later.
If
you are taking a hand or footprints for our range of Hand
& Foot print Posters, we only require one hand or foot
print. We will mirror image the print you give us - this way the
poster looks a lot more balanced with two identical prints!
